Though everyone loves food. I myself am a great foodie person but the salary of cooks all over the world, especially United States in relatively low compared to other professions.  The average salary ranges from 20,000 dollars to 31,000 dollars and some earn even less than 20,000 dollars.

This clearly shows that this is a quite low paid job. On an hourly wage basis, line cooks in USA earns approximately 11 dollars per hour which is considered to be quite low in my opinion. Cooking is not an easy job, there is too much competition in this field and the cooks need to get more salaries to live a healthy life style.

The worst thing about this profession is that pay scale doesn’t rises with job experience, as with the case of other professions. The increase in pay is very slow and very minimal. Hence I would not want to adopt this as a profession, there are better alternatives out there.

San Luis Obispo, California; Anchorage, Alaska; and Las Vegas, Nevada are some states where restaurant cooks earn relatively more than the other states. Particularly because people in these areas love dining out. Hence there’s a greater demand for restaurants, and hence cooks. And obviously if you have studied economics, then you may know that where the demand is high, the workers get highly paid too and vice versa. So if you are planning to adopt this as a profession you should try opening an outlet in these high paid areas.
